Vision & eye care
We support vision screenings, provide help with eye exams and glasses, and collect used eyeglasses for redistribution.
Serving Durham since 1951
The Durham Lions Club is Durham’s oldest service organization, bringing people together to support vision care, scholarships, local causes, and community traditions.
About our club
The Durham Lions Club was founded in October 1951 and has served the town ever since. Members have long combined fellowship with practical service, supporting local needs while also advancing the wider Lions mission of helping people in our communities and around the world.
Over the years the club has built traditions that Durham residents know well, especially its long-running presence at the Durham Fair and its commitment to vision-related causes, scholarships, and town projects.
What we do
We support vision screenings, provide help with eye exams and glasses, and collect used eyeglasses for redistribution.
Since 1958, the club has awarded scholarships to graduating students, including both academic and arts-focused awards.
From the Durham Fair food booth to town events and charitable fundraisers, the club helps bring the community together.
A piece of club history
The historic photo at the top of this page captures a long-standing part of the club’s identity. What began decades ago as fair-time fundraising grew into one of the club’s signature community traditions.
